Ackthorpe is a OO gauge model train layout which was set up in 1950. This great model train layout is owned and operated by Southampton Model Railway Society and is the first layout the society has built that has strayed from its native Southern practice. Ackthorpe is set around a West Yorkshire colliery on BR’s Eastern Region in the 1950s.

Set on the Swinton and Knottingley line in West Yorkshire, the layout features a great variety of LMS, LNER and BR Standard locomotives. The colliery exchange sidings are worked by a fleet of small National Coal Board tank engines.
